After years of waiting for technology to "catch up" for Mailia, we have finally found doctors, procedures and therapies designed to help her. We believe that the simultaneous combination of these treatments will be beneficial to her ultimate healing from Eisenmenger's Syndrome.

In order to facilitate Mailia’s chance for survival, we must find a way to finance her many surgeries and therapies she will require in the near future.

Adult Stem Cell Transplant - various phases

The initial procedures were done in Florida and the Dominican Republic through Regenocyte

Update:  On June 2, 2010 Mailia received her first adult stem cell transplant in Florida and the Dominican Republic.   She also received the second procedure on November 2, 2011.

Recently on June 13, 2012 Mailia underwent a Right Heart Catherization study at Sacred Heart in Spokane to measure her pulmonary vascular resistance and we were able to see improvements in her pulmonary hypertension after her two initial stem cell transplants. However, Mailia's pressures are still too high to safely proceed with corrective heart surgery at this time and her doctors have recommended she be treated with another stem cell transplant.  Please email us privately if you wish to see a spreadsheet we have developed showing Mailia's progress and improvements since her initial diagnosis in 1999 to present.

In November of 2013 and March of 2014 Mailia was also treated at the Stem Cell Institute in Panama City, Panama with Mesencymal Stem Cell therapy.

Possible Surgical Procedures:  Pulmonary Artery Banding, Double Flap Patch to the VSD or Right Ventricle Assist Device

One of these potential procedures may be done by Mailia's heart surgeon Dr. Michael Black at St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida or possibly with another surgical center yet to be determined.

Open heart surgery to correct and patch the Ventricular Septal Defect (hole in the heart)

Surgery to patch the VSD and removal of the PA band, after the second stem cell procedure, will be for the most part, covered by insurance excluding other expenses.

Additional therapies:

Breathing and energy work
Physical therapy & follow up testing
Chiropractic for scoliosis
Nutritional supplements to support healing

Most of these treatments are not covered by our medical insurance. We are confident however, that with the help of generous and compassionate supporters – people just like you – we will be able raise the capital to pay for Mailia's stem cell transplants and these outlined treatments.  And so we reach out to you, humbly requesting your help in raising the required resources for Mailia’s surgeries and therapies.
